‘50 PASSAGEWAYS TO RICHES’

Passageways to Riches #1,

Time Management

There was a quote below it saying;

“Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.”

—Dr. M. Scott Peck

“Folks, do any of you drive a car?”

About three-quarters of the room raised their hands.

“I realize that this is New York City, where public transportation is prevalent and awesome. What it is that I'm about to explain is another concept that can save you drivers something irreplaceable. To drive a car everyone knows you have to feed it. Put gasoline into it. When you do, fill it up! You're going to burn the gasoline anyhow so why not fill it up? Every time that you stop for gas, it takes an average of ten to fifteen minutes. If you add up all the times you stop for gas, it isn't long before you're taking hours and eventually days TO GET GASOLINE!” he yelled.

“Let me ask you something else, when was the last time you misplaced your keys?”

Everyone started murmuring and nodding their heads.

“There was a time when I was looking at ten to fifteen properties in a six hour time span. I had my property assessment list and the numbers were all completed beforehand.”

I wasn't sure what he meant about the numbers, but I guess they are about the property values and offers.

“I had a route planned for the order of properties that I would visit. I would stop at home for lunch or just visit with my lovely wife and then dart out of the house to continue on my planned route. At this point, about three times a week, I would run back out to the car and realize that I didn't have my keys. So, I'd run back inside, look on the table, then the coffee table, check the door, check my dresser, then go back to the kitchen table, then the door again, then my dresser again, and everywhere else again as if some miracle would place them where I already looked. Sound familiar?”

Almost all of the sheep including myself shook our heads up and down.

“That event was taking me about an hour a week in downtime. In a month's time that is equal to half of a normal workday! Lost and never to be found. It didn't take me much longer to realize what that was costing me. So, I bought a key hook and disciplined myself to use it as soon as I entered the front door.

Another facet of this time machine is that in this period of the information and computer age, you are never more than 60 seconds away from anyone, or any place in the world! Remember everyone, the valuable strategy here is, rather than thinking in terms of monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, or even hourly, break your time down into smaller increments. The value you place on it will alter.”

Just then, another PowerPoint projection went up on the screen.

“Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives that we are dying.
